Eureka Valley, California 2014 We waited for seven hours under the merciless, burning sun in the Eureka Valley for the evening. Around us the spooky Dust-Devils wander through this droughty, benighted place and cover us in hot grainy air that burns our skin. As the shadows grow longer and some clouds appear at the horizon we began our climb up to one of the highest Dunes in the entire States and what a awaits us there was a jaw-dropping scenery that looks like we were teleported onto antoher planet. I love the Eureka Valley. Hopefully I´ll make it back there sometime =)

I had been in the Mammoth Lakes area in California for a few days shooting, and was heading south to San Diego for the same thing. I left very early and was coming down out of the mountains towards Bishop when I hit a mesa and an area known as Round Valley. Off in the distance was this mountain; Mt. Tom. I then saw the grazing pasture with the horses, and I was reminded of a Ansel Adams print (in the case of that print I believe it was shot further south at the base of Mt. Whitney). I stopped, grabbed my tripod, and found a spot to shoot. The morning was cold, but when the sun started to hit the top of the mountain I forgot all about it.

On the eastern sierras of California, and about ten miles south of Mammoth Mountain, is a lake tucked right up against the top of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Its called Convict Lake, and if you go there about a half an hour before sun rise you can see the sunlight hit the top of the peaks and work its way down to the lake.
